The Archipel and the Rigaud Museum
A national-stage theatre with its distinctive red hulls, the Archipel offers an eclectic programme, from contemporary theatre to dance. In the centre, the Hyacinthe-Rigaud Museum retraces the story of a Perpignan painter who became Louis XIV’s portraitist, and also hosts temporary exhibitions. Visiting a show together, stopping before the painting that moves you, discussing it afterwards: it is an ideal way to connect.
Visa pour l’Image and Catalan festivals
Every September, Perpignan becomes the world capital of photojournalism with Visa pour l’Image: free exhibitions at the Couvent des Minimes, the Palais des Corts and the Casa Pairal. In spring, Sant Jordi fills the squares with books and roses. On the music side, the Ida y Vuelta Festival celebrates the rhythms of the Catalan world. So many chances to cross paths and talk differently.
Gardens and patio evenings
To catch your breath, the Miranda Garden and the Palmarium offer shady corners right in the centre. As night falls, the patios of old Saint-Jacques and the bars of the station district come alive with concerts and Catalan rumba. On Lyad, Perpignan locals share their favourite cultural outings; it is up to you to find someone to clap along at the next show.
